Default Difference between shortcut icon and icon?

    Hello

I was cleaning the html a bit and noticed there are 2 tags for the favicon:
    - shortcut icon
    - icon

What is the difference between these?

Its used for IE.. since IE has to be difficult, it uses one of those tags. Cant remember and the other browsers use the other.

    Hello,

should rel= be "icon" or "shortcut icon" for favicons?

I have favicons working in Firefox, but not IE. I have it typed as "icon" right now. But it looks like IE might want "shortcut icon" instead.

Does Firefox support "shortcut icon" for the favicon rel= description? Hopefully there is a description that will work for both Firefox and IE.

Important key points of shortcuts and icons:

    1. The shortcut icons occupy less memory space.
    2. The shortcut icons of any program can be created in multiple instances.
    3. The program will work even if you may delete the icon of that software
    4. The shortcut is created upon most frequent usage of the user, icons are also provided by default by the manufacturers of software.
